Thu received her Ph.D. from Stanford where she was awarded a Stanford Graduate Fellowship. She started her graduate degree at Carnegie Mellon University where she received a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF GRFP), a Carnegie Mellon Presidential Fellowship, and a Pittsburgh Achievement Reward for College Scientists (ARCS) Fellowship. She received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University.
Thu Nguyen specialized in lower limb exoskeleton control. Her research involved human-in-the-loop optimization and real-time exoskeleton control to assist walking in individuals with chronic stroke. She has worked on projects involving understanding metabolic energy consumption in asymmetric walking, changing paretic knee kinematics, and analyzing failed total knee and hip replacements.
